HOW WHOLE-BODY CRYOTHERAPY WORKS
  • Inside the cryochamber, the individual is exposed to chilled air vapor.
  • The body enters a survival state, also known as the "fight or flight" mode.
  • Blood rushes toward the core, leading to vasoconstriction in the skin, muscles, tissues, and extremities.
  • Metabolism ramps up to generate additional energy.
  • Adrenaline and endorphins are unleashed, mitigating pain, uplifting mood, invigorating the immune system, and enhancing vitality.
  • Calories are expended during and post-session, as the body warms up again.
  • Vasodilation takes place, facilitating the circulation of fresh, oxygen-rich, nutrientladen blood throughout the body. This process diminishes inflammation and accelerates the healing process.

FAQ's
What should I wear?

You will change before your session so you can come in with whatever you’re wearing! Zem Om offers clothing to wear, or you can simply bring your own!

Shorts, leggings, t-shirts, bathing suits, boxers and sports bras are acceptable.

You do not have the option to go in the chamber without clothing; Clothing is required for your safety and must be 100% dry and free of all metals.

Is it OK if I’m wet or sweaty?

You must be dry before entering the Whole-Body Cryotherapy chamber.

Take a moment to zen out in our recovery room before your session or take a pic by our “Find Your Zen” IG wall in your comfy Zen Om robe and slippers.

What if I feel too cold, nervous or uncomfortable during my session?

Your comfort is a priority to us. If at any point you choose to end your session early, simply push the door open! It does not lock and the session time is entirely up to you.

There will be a technician present at all times in the treatment room just in case you have a question or need some assistance.

Do I need to remain still during the session?

We do recommend it for our Cryotherapy OG’s! But if you are still new to it, go ahead and move around!

Are you COVID compliant?

Yes, we have conducted complete COVID risk assessments, follow all the government guidelines, use the appropriate PPE and sanitize after each session.

Should I take a shower before or after the session?

Showering before the session is not necessary; dry skin is preferred. During the session your body stays dry, so taking a shower afterwards is not necessary either.

You can get dressed immediately following your session and go on with your day.

How cold is the Cryochamber?

The whole-body cryochamber that we use can get down to temperatures as low as -124℃.

How long is a full session?

We recommend a full 3 minutes for an effective session.

How many sessions do you recommend?

We generally recommend 2-3 sessions per week for the first month to see results, and then one session every week or two thereafter to maintain the maximum benefits. Every session can be beneficial.

One session provides instant relief from inflammation and is good for an energy boost that will last a full day.

Three to six sessions will provide increased energy, send enriched blood to damaged areas of the body and begin to provide joint-pain relief and collagen production.

Seven sessions will help move the body from repair to rehabilitation.

Is cryotherapy safe for everyone?

Whole-body cryotherapy, while generally safe, may not be suitable for all individuals due to specific medical considerations. Certain medical conditions contraindicate the use of cryotherapy. These conditions include:

  1. Cryoglobulinemia: This medical condition involves an excess of cold-sensitive antibodies, which can clump together and impede blood flow when body temperature drops.
  2. Raynaud's syndrome: A condition characterized by heightened sensitivity of blood vessels to cold temperatures, particularly in extremities.
  3. Claustrophobia: Although the door can easily be pushed open, the enclosed space might be uncomfortable for those with claustrophobia
  4. Hypothyroidism: This condition increases susceptibility to cold temperatures.
  5. Cardiovascular system diseases: Individuals with unstable angina, peripheral vascular disease, and cardiac failure should avoid whole-body cryotherapy due to its potential to constrict peripheral blood vessels.
  6. Acute respiratory tract diseases: Exposure to cold air and reduced humidity in cryotherapy chambers could exacerbate respiratory conditions.
  7. Severe wasting diseases: People with muscle wastage might not tolerate cold temperatures well.
  8. Severe anemia
  9. Pregnancy
  10. Seizure disorders
  11. Wound healing problems
  12. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): Those with a history of DVT should avoid cryotherapy due to potential adverse effects on peripheral blood vessels.
  13. Alcohol or drug use: Both substances can negatively impact the body's normal physiological response to cold.

It's essential to consult with a medical professional before considering wholebody cryotherapy, especially if you have any of these medical conditions or factors.

Can I still use the cryochamber with breast implants?

The whole-body cryochamber rapidly cools the skin. It is the rapid skin cooling that leads to the beneficial effects of cryotherapy. It does not affect your body tissues below the layer of the skin. Hence, it will not affect breast implants.

Can I work out immediately after my session?

Yes! And it’s actually recommended. Ten minutes of light effort right after your session stimulates your circulation and promotes a longer-lasting effect following your session.
